Async refresh of visualisations in dashboard

Rather than doing a full visualisation, blocking refresh of a dashboard, can we do a "background" refresh that doesn't white out the visualisations and just updates them whenever the data arrives?

This was done because of #2565 - but maybe during auto-refresh it's not necessary?

We've now added a timeout for the "whiteout" so it only takes affect after 2 seconds by default. You can set this to some insanely high number to get the described effect of "async refresh"
