Common recommendation:
The yt-dlp fork.

Yeah it's still up on github if that's what u meant.
It did go down like 2-3 years ago bcoz of DMCA but it came back soon after that.

It's indeed 'up' here on GitHub, but the quality of the issue tracker is rapidly deteriorating due to the absence of any moderation...

But almost worth it for @RonRicoSuave's solution, which I guess no-one tagged with a laugh just in case the OP took it seriously ... "guerilla moderation"

Unfortunately very little has changed.

For example the throttling issue with YouTube is not fixed.

Replace youtube-dl with yt-dlp

youtube-dl is larely dormant, with only infrequent updates
(https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29590501). In particular,
youtube-dl *still* hasn’t fixed a six month old bug that causes YouTube
downloads to be dramatically throttled, rendering it largely useless
(ytdl-org/youtube-dl#29326).

yt-dlp is youtube-dl’s spritual successor and appears better maintained
at the moment (ytdl-org/youtube-dl#30317).
