WHMCS 8.0.2 successfully created the virtual machine, but failed to manage it
Enter service management and still prompt to create a virtual machine.
Unable to read in WHMCS:Virtual machine ID,If you set it manually, you can restore management.

It seems there are a lot of people having this issue yet nothing is being done and the vultr account is closing out issues that aren’t resolved. Oh well, moving on.

Who is actually responsible for fixing this issue? Vultr?

Top up. WHMCS 8 has been released for some time, and I believe vultr and developers will solve this problem.

Thanks @iaoduncom.

Has anyone logged a ticket with Vultr and are they aware of the issue do you know?

Accounts Team Vultr Staff2020-10-12 17:21:11Hello,

The WHMCS module is an open source extension for an otherwise unaffiliated third-party product ( WHMCS @ https://www.whmcs.com ). If you're having issues with WHMCS itself, please consult with their support using https://www.whmcs.com/services/ . If you have an issue with a function provided by the module/extension, please file your request at the related GitHub repository : https://github.com/vultr/whmcs-vultr/issues .

In general, we do not provide detailed formal support for reseller operations. It is possible to obtain a much greater degree of control over Vultr subscriptions on an account by using the Vultr API to manage them ( https://www.vultr.com/api/ ). However, using the Vultr API effectively for resale purposes is a substantial software development task that is likewise outside the scope of our support.

Thank you for understanding.

Signed,

That does not sound like it is going to get fixed then!

It seems like we are doing this already if you ask me. Not too sure what to make out of that email @iaoduncom forwarded as a comment.

As I understand it, they seem completely uninterested in supporting this addon and the use of their API for reselling purposes. I want @ddymko or @afady to correct me if I'm wrong on that.

The Vultr API is a powerful tool that could be used for so much more than it already is. For possible hosting providers wishing to resell Vultr Cloud + Dedicated, staying on older WHMCS versions won't be a viable option for very much longer now that a lot of mainstream WHMCS modules and themes are starting to focus support towards WHMCS 8.

The 19th of September 2019 was the latest release (v2.0.4), and on March 5th of this year, @ddymko did create two-issue templates for us, users, on GitHub. These templates could be:
a) A choice by @ddymko to improve the support and bug reports via GitHub
b) A choice at Vultr to discontinue the addon and make it easier for the community to maintain it

The choices of it being the later in the list above seem likely to some extent, but I hope it isn't the case.

All I wish for is to hear from either @ddymko or @iaoduncom on why the addon itself has been unmaintained for so long from the people of Vultr, and is the Vultr team not interested in maintaining this addon and the use of API for reselling anymore?

At this point in time this module is community driven and we are not actively maintaining this module.
If pull requests are submitted that fix issues I have no problem merging them in and cutting releases.

Just to clarify, originally this module was only available for download through vultr.com. When we had created the github org we had ported the module over to github to simplify downloads. Even before this module was moved it had very limited support.

I suppose there are no plans either on maintaining it again from your parts?

At this point, I am happy to commission someone to update and fix the issues seen post WHMCS 8.0.2 release. I appreciate that is not very community driven (moreover commercial) but if that is what is needed to get this working then happy to consider it.

Hey guys - anyone able to help fix this issue? I am not a coder but happy to commission someone to drive this forward and benefit the community. Seems a shame not to maintain this for WHMCS 8.0. Quite a good add-on.

I am willing to help in the payment of any programmer who can assist in the necessary corrections to make the module work.
Maybe we can hire some at freelancer.com.

Does anyone in the community have the skills to debug this, make a fix and speak to @ddymko or @iaoduncom to merge the changes? It seems that its the only way forward if there is no option for Vultr team to fix. However, and more concerning, I can't see anyone else stepping forward with the skills for this to be resolved.

Is this the end of the line for the module?

@jazz7381 - I have tested this on a WHMCS installation and your fix (thank you@) has restored the functionality to manage the virtual server after creation.
