FAQ: Reconciliation

How does the reconciliation status work?

My Expenses implements the reconciliation workflow that common desktop financing tools have defined (e.g. GnuCash, Grisbi). The idea is that a transaction is in state non-reconciled when you enter it. As soon as your bank acknowledges it, you clear it. Then when you receive your bank statement, you call the "Balance account" command, and compare the balance on the statement with the cleared balance. If they match, and you confirm, all cleared transactions are moved to state "reconciled".

Why is there no reconciliation for cash accounts?

This process only makes sense for accounts where you receive statements like bank accounts. Hence it is not available for cash accounts. The following video shows how to change the type of an account, and illustrates a simple example of a reconciliation process: https://mastodon.social/web/@myexpenses/108321614304712206
