Segmented Rendering Demo

This Next.js application demonstrates a Jamstack pattern named "Segmented Rendering", which enables static personalization.

It is very similar to "Personalization at-the-edge" as Vercel puts it. Segmented Rendering is a more generic pattern, that can also be implemented in a more traditional architecture.

The key ingredients are:

  • a static rendering framework. It's even better if it supports per-request or deferred server-rendering (Next, Gatsby).
  • a proxy server that can rewrite URLs. For instance Next.js Edge middlewares.
  • optionnaly a backend that can set cookies using the Set-Cookie header (you can also set cookies client-side with JS)

Getting Started

First, run the development server:

npm run dev
# or
yarn dev

Open http://localhost:3000 with your browser to see the result.

You can start editing the page by modifying pages/index.js. The page auto-updates as you edit the file.

API routes can be accessed on http://localhost:3000/api/hello. This endpoint can be edited in pages/api/hello.js.

The pages/api directory is mapped to /api/*. Files in this directory are treated as API routes instead of React pages.
