This issue has been migrated from #14178.

Like #13111, but for application services.

Defined here: https://github.com/matrix-org/synapse/blob/fb9b3613cbbc37ab95e872ad75a5bc704b96ee54/synapse/rest/client/directory.py#L180-L183

Spec is here and only defines a PUT.

Per matrix-org/synapse#13111 (comment): we should

  • check the number of requests matrix.org has seen to this endpoint
  • check common appservices to see if they use it
  • assuming it's unused, rip it out
