[Question] Why is npm described as ”not supported”?

The README currently includes the following content:

Why is npm not supported?

Background

• I'm using /eui as a stand-alone project.
• We use npm, and haven't observed any issues (but the inclusion of this text in the repo makes me thing we might have one).
• This comment (EUNSUPPORTEDPROTOCOL #1239 (comment)) suggested that the yarn requirement was temporary, until Lodash v4, which the project seems to be on now.
• This PR (Allow npm to be used to install the @elastic/eui package #1811) implies that npm is safe again(?)
• I got curious about this because I'm trying to tackle the size of our bundle, and was aiming to tackle the internal lodash dependency (Say no - to lodash #360)

Thanks for checking! Your notes on the topic are correct - I believe npm is usable with EUI again. Installing a custom lodash dependency was the only known issue. As long as the dependencies exist (webpack & other bundlers complain loudy and/or fail by default if those dependencies aren't available), everything should be good. The documentation has not been updated yet as we haven't had time to do a full run-through using npm to confirm.

I'm closing this as answered, but if you have any further questions or issues using EUI please re-open or create a new issue.
