This project provides an Android implementation of the STK500 protocol, in order to be able to program a microcontroller board such as the bq ZUM or Arduino Uno by a Bluetooth connection.

protocol-stk-500-v1

protocol-stk-500-v1 is a library project to program a microcontroller board such as the bq ZUM or Arduino Uno by a Bluetooth connection.

It allows you to program the microcontroller board without using avr-dude or any native code.

There is an example project, SendHexToInoByBluetooth, where you can see how can the library be used.

Usage

  1. Clone the repository:

    git clone https://github.com/bq/protocol-stk-500-v1.git
    
  2. Install in your local repository:

    cd protocol-stk-500-v1/ProtocolSTK500v1_Library
    gradle install
    
  3. Add your local repository to your root project's build.gradle file:

    repositories {
        mavenLocal()
    }
    
  4. Add the protocol-stk-500-v1 dependency to your app's build.gradle file:

    dependencies {
        compile('com.bq.robotic:protocol-stk-500-v1:3.0@aar')
    }
    

Installation

  1. Install Android Studio and Gradle.

  2. If you use a 64 bits Linux, you will need to install ia32-libs-multiarch:

    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get upgrade
    sudo apt-get install ia32-libs-multiarch
    
  3. Clone the repository:

    git clone https://github.com/bq/protocol-stk-500-v1.git
    
  4. Install the protocol-stk-500-v1 library in your local repository:

    cd protocol-stk-500-v1/ProtocolSTK500v1_Library
    gradle install
    
  5. In Android Studio go to File > Open and select the ProtocolSTK500v1_Library gradle project inside the previous cloned project (that with the green robot icon, the ProtocolSTK500v1_Library folder not the repository one with the example project inside too).

  6. If your are going to use protocol-stk-500-v1 for one of your projects, follow the instructions of the Usage section in order to installing it in your local repository and add to it the dependency needed.

Requirements

Limitations

The bootloader of the microcontroller board must be listening to the Serial port (where the Bluetooth module is connected) till a timeout. The bootloader of the microcontroller board must be listening to the Bluetooth module till a timeout has passed. This time must be big enought to let the mobile device acknowledge that it is connected with the Bluetooth of the microcontroller board and start to send the program. Usually, the default bootloaders have this timeout too much short and the microcontroller board can't be programmed.
