Accessibility

Tip

The Harvard University has a great short guide to accessible content creation.

When creating new resources, keep in mind that you never know who wants to use your creations. As a quick overview for this specific database, read the following list. Consider them a challenge to create awesome resources:

  • Well done typesetting
    • helps everyone to quickly grasp your information
    • improves the experience on screen readers
  • Convey information in multiple ways
    • e.g. underline colored text
    • e.g. when drawing magnets, additionaly to red & green coloring, write N and S in white on them
      • bonus: the magnets are well defined on a b/w print
  • Use high contrast with respect to colorblindness. You can use this colorblindness simulation tool to check predefined palettes and test your own. For example:

    #D81B60, hex code for a magenta-like color

    #1E88E5, a saturated blue

    #FF7E22, the phyphox orange

    #9DE0DC, a light blue

  • Use alternative descriptions (alt) for your images, as required by our project.
  • If you create a video, a well-written script
    • makes captions easy
    • needs only a few adjustements to be a great transcript, written and as a podcast
  • Consider how to decrease barriers in experiments
