This repository contains the Logeion version of short definitions for Greek lemmata. It is originally based on the Perseus short definitions (www.perseus.tufts.edu) Note that some definitions also contain Greek (for instance, in the case of species that are not securely identified, illnesses no longer identified the same way and where modern terminology could be misleading).
If you use the data, please give credit to Perseus and Logeion and report corrections and additions. Logeion would gladly host versions in different languages! Please get in touch.
Note: the short definitions given here are not always visible in Logeion. For frequent words, we import textbook definitions, which feature grammatical information such as principal parts of verbs, and are more likely to prioritize frequent usage in the classical period over earliest meaning attested, however rarely, or 'etymologizing' meanings extracted from dictionaries. These definitions will, however, show up in the morphological analysis at perseus.uchicago.edu/Greek.html.
A smaller file has only short definitions for lemmata actually in use at perseus.uchicago.
