Describe the feature:

Hello Elastic team,

I do a feature request today because I would like to have the possibility to fill the "url template" with the protocole file:/

I opened a new thread in the discuss forum to know if is there a way to do that but no, so "spalger" send me here.

Currently, I have some logs files accessible using a network drive. So to show them thanks to my browser I use the URL : file://///complete/server/path/mylog.log

The value "mylog.log" is a string field in kibana.

I tried to to do : Management > Index Patterns > Edit this field >

  • Type : String
  • Format : Url
  • Url Template : file://///complete/server/path/{{value}}
  • Label Template : {{value}}

This link works but it redirects me to : https://localhost:5601/app/file://///complete/server/path/mylog.log so the beginning of the url is kept instead to be delete and replaced by my file:// protocol.

My thread in the discuss forum : https://discuss.elastic.co/t/url-type-format-issue/141797/2

Thank you

Duplicate of #20067

Please note also my comment: #20067 (comment) since even if Kibana will support this, it's very likely your browser won't allow that.
