title: Computer Anonymous - Edinburgh
---

Computer Anonymous - Edinburgh

Read the overview, if you haven't already.

First Meeting!

Our first meeting was at The Southern on Tuesday the 8th of October, from 7pm.

19 people attended! It was great, and we had a big red button and some people ate burgers.

Were you there? I thought it was great, but maybe I'm wrong. If you have any feedback, questions, or concerns at all, please contact me: @semanticist / john@semantici.st.

The Meetings

Lots of people turned up for our first meeting, but there's definitely been some concerns about clashing with other events. We could try and pick a day that minimises clashing, but given how many events are running in Edinburgh that's going to be difficult. So I have an alternate proposal:

We run Computer Anonymous Edinburgh on the nth day of the month, instead of the nth weekday. So if we stick with what we have, it'd be the 8th of the month, regardless of what day of the week that is.

Please let me know how bad an idea this is, or if you actually like it, which n you'd prefer.

Venue:

The Southern was okay, but a bit noisy. I know some people struggled to hear conversations. We were also pressed for space - I warned them it was for 12-15, but I don't think they expected even that many to turn up. We should definitely look into alternative locations, but I want to fix down the date first, since that'll make it easier when talking to venues.

The usual suspects for a techy meetup are:

Holyrood 9a, here.

But do we want to go back to the same old places? Perhaps there's somewhere nice down Leith, or in some other part of the town that would be more accessible to people who don't normally go to meet-ups?

You can add your name by doing a fork and pull request on the github page, or by emailing computercomputercomputer at glastonbridge dot co dot uk. The latter method is somewhat unreliable and uses a high-latency meat interface, but it tries hard.

There is also an edinburgh-specific IRC channel on freenode called ##computer.ed
