I am currently rewriting this project from scratch in Java.

One can load .tungboard files and the simulation runs as good as in TUNG.
But there are not yet near enough editing features of TUNG present.
And the project is heavily work-in-progress, changes happen slowly, but often.
If you are desperate for an alternative to load big boards, check it out :)

OpenTUNG is fantastic and I love it! Anyone who likes TUNG should definitely check it out.
