Thanks for bringing this into attention.

A raster rendering of the original font is used to kickoff the algorithm, and the output is quite drastically different in shapes. (If you do overlay/diff comparison its hard to see much resemblance, since the neural net learns the general idea of "how to draw strokes", and reimagines the strokes from scratch).

The reason for basing the work on cwTeX is that it is the only open source FangSong font I can find, which is a part of the rationale for making this project: to have more open source FangSong fonts.

Just did a little bit search: It seems that some countries protect the shapes of the glyphs, some only the font programs themselves. In this case both seems to be distinct. Perhaps it counts as "derivative work", but I am not sure.

IANAL, so I guess in the end, if you feel really unsure about this, please feel free to not use the font. If someone has more knowledge/opinion on this issue, (or even advice on where to find open source FangSong fonts to base on), they're welcome to chime in. Thanks!
