Every time do the following JabRef freezes, and I have to force quit:

  • Open a file using File/Open from the menu.
  • Open Help/About and then close it.
  • Open preferences/external applications/vim/browse.

I have tried standalone java version as well. I happened again. It also happens with version 4.3.0.

BTW, the solution in the FAQ did not worked.

My JabRef version info:
JabRef: JabRef 4.3.1
OS: Mac OS X 10.13.6 x86_64
Java: Java 1.8.0_181

Please try again with the latest development version. Howev,er it is recommended to create a backup of your db. https://builds.jabref.org/master/

It works. Thank you. I like the new interface better.

@murattasdemir Thanks for the feedback! We are currently reworking the whole interface to the new technology. Some dialogs are not converted yet. See #3861 for an overview of what has been done already

@Siedlerchr, JabRef is a very important part of my workflow. I don't really see a better alternative. (I've tried all others btw).

The latest development version solves some issues, but as you say, it is not a final version. Therefore it's buggy. It has other problems. It frequently hangs and I have to force quit.

I will try to let you know all the problems I run into to help you guys make it better.

But, in the meantime I need to get my work done. I guess my solution is not the latest development version but the older builds. Do you keep older versions somewhere?

[One problem with the development verion is that it pastes the registry twice. For example, I copy the article title from web and paste into JabRef, it pastes the title as "titletitle". ]

@murattasdemir Please report any issue you encouter with the development version. This is important for us.
You can find all older builds here: https://github.com/JabRef/jabref/releases
