Describe the bug

The current behavior of opting-in new attendees automatically into the emails subscribers conflicts with german privacy laws. By german regulation this process needs to be a double-opt-in.

Apart from Germany, double opt-in isn’t strictly required in any other European country, but it is considered a best-recommended practice in countries like Austria, Norway, Greece, Luxembourg, and Switzerland.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create a new user & log-in as such
  2. RSVP to an event
  3. Edit your personal profile under wp-admin/profile.php
  4. See ✅ Yes, I want to receive updates and information about events from the organizers. to be checked.
