This needs a checkbox too under user profile to enable/disable feature.

Agree, that something like this could be useful.

The iCal standard uses ALARM fields to signal, that a notification should be shown. I’d like to allow setting one or multiple alarms for a given event.

In the context of WordPress an email could be sent. If someone subscribed to one of the iCal feeds or downloaded a singular event ics, the users calendar app will take care for that.
