Install scripts fail on Ubuntu 14.04 #23

Description
The deps.sh script fails on Ubuntu 14.04 (or derivatives, in my case its Linux Mint 17.3). I made some Pull requests (#21, #19) which fix the issue for Ubuntu derivatives.
However after I made my pull requests I saw that commit 0043399 (part of #22 ) makes some changes to deps.sh separate Debian from Ubuntu installs. My patches were made to the upstream deps.sh script so there are possible conflicts.
I could adapt my patches so that they fit to the changes made by the 0043399 commit in the #22 pull request if you like.
