textures.py file for IndustrialCraft² and BuildCraft.

Domochevsky has added all the blocks in the minecraft mods IndustrialCraft² and BuildCraft and his modificated textures.py file can be found here:

I'm opening this because I don't know where should be this added, or if it should be added anywhere. I think this could be helpful for people who play this mods. Some ideas:

• Storing it in a gist and adding some instructions in the wiki.
• Storing it in contrib/ and adding some instructions in the wiki.

Proposal:

• Create a new folder for mod block definitions, and add the new definitions to an ic2.py file in that folder
  • So we end up with a bunch of files that start from overviewer_core import textures or similar, and contain @material decorated functions
• Add a new configuration option that lets you select/include files from that folder by name or elsewhere by path
  • 'customblocks': ['ic2', 'betterthanwolves', '/home/tom/devel/custom_definitions.py']
  • Per renders[] entry? Not sure if overviewer would let us isolate the materials definitions like that.
  • If it has to be a global option then I can't see it being a big issue. Do many people run and map worlds with conflicting mods installed?
• How does @materials handle blocks being redefined?
  • Do we allow the last defined function to render the block? Or throw an error?
• What are the downsides to this approach?
  • Many of you understand more about how Overviewer works than I do, so there's bound to be something that I've missed

Problems include:

• Handling configured block IDs and block ID conflicts (1.3.2 cocoa conflicts with RedPower2 indigo flowers out of the box, and Tekkit has several custom block ID changes)
• Loading additional textures from mod JARs, dividing them up the same as the vanilla terrain image, ...
• Handling additional data for wires and machines, and making it available in pseudodata (painted wires, cross-connecting wires, the gigantic mess that is RedPower2 Microblocks)
  • BuildCraft and Railcraft offer liquid tanks, which require rendering the tank texture over a fractional portion of the liquid texture...
• For the various types of rubber trees, tweaks need to be made to primitives/base.c to foliage-color them

Domochevsky did not appear to list which version of Overviewer he modified, so I'm using the Anvil merge as a base, which seemed to me to be cleanest.

Sorry for the bugspam, but a few weeks ago I made a teeny tiny effort to make Tekkit (RedPower, IndustrialCraft, BuildCraft) worlds reasonably renderable, although far from perfect, for some University of Virginia friends of mine.

I currently run a Tekkit server and I'm curious how to get this file mod to work with the Windows version of Overviewer

The pre-built Windows version of Overviewer already has textures.py and base.c built-in, so there's no way to make these changes to that version. You will need to download the Overviewer source code and run it in a Windows version of Python (CPython and ActiveState Python both work, but IronPython does not yet); you will also need a C compiler so it can make a DLL out of the C code that would be too slow/memory-intense in Python.

Unfortunately, that discussion is out of the scope of this issue thread, but someone on IRC may be able to help.
