Darktable " Move " in actions on selection , act like a Copy !

Describe the bug

in Darktable 5.0.1, i imported a RAW file , starred it to seperate it from other files, did some adjustments , by clicking on "Move" option in actions on selection panel in Lighttable , I moved it to a new folder but when i checked the new folder, there i could see the file but not its XMP file that contains my adjustments . Then i checked the older folder and to my surprise i could see the Raw file with related XMP file . It's like the move button acts as a Copy without moving the XMP file .Another thing i'd like to add is , if i select the file on the lighttable and click on the Copy and choose the destination , it will act exactly as the manual mentions for the Move button , meaning moving the file to the new destination also with the related XMP file , and removing them from the old folder and re-defines the path for the file ! I tested some other files and it is still the same issue . Please fix that issue because it's been really annoying to find some selected files among too many others in order to move them manually . Thanks .

Steps to reproduce

1. Add a Raw file to the lighttable .
2. select the file
3. click on actions on selection
4. click on move
5. select a new destination
6. ok

Expected behavior

Has to move the file and the XMP file to the new destination

Not able to reproduce with 5.3.0+16~gf0339e4918, Linux, Ubuntu 24.04. Works exactly as decribed in https://darktable-org.github.io/dtdocs/en/module-reference/utility-modules/lighttable/selected-image/ . Did you check the file permissions of the files to be moved ?

Can't reproduce on Win 10 with 5.2.0

Permissions was my thought on reading the report. I took a quick look at the code, and if the g_file_move call for the image fails, darktable doesn't try to move the sidecar files. When an OS-level rename call fails or is unavailable (e.g. different filesystems/partitions), the way a move gets implemented is to copy the file and then delete the original - it's clear that this approach is being used, with the delete failing.

Sorry, but now I absolutely don't understand what your issue is :

• In your original post you show us a "steps to reproduce" list which should show the issue (for me and others it does not)
• But now you describe the same procedure with other words and now it works ?

What is your setting for preferences -> storage -> Create xmp files ?

Re-read your recent post, you spoke about copy, not move. So please forget the first part of my comment. Anyway, checked again with different configurations, still can't reproduce. Could you try with the latest version 5.2 ?
