Import fails silently if directory does not exist #17747

Describe the bug

I tried to copy and import a bunch of images and was wondering, why they would not show up in my collections. Turns out I moved some directories around and the target directory was not present anymore and my user had no permissions to create the target directory.
While this is my fault, darktable did not properly visualize that the import was failing. The status would read "importing 0/35 images" and that number did not change, but the white status bar below progressed until the end and disappeared. So I thought the text was just bugging out and the import would work as expected.

Steps to reproduce

Have darktable import files into a path that does not exist and where the current user has no permissions to create missing folders.

Expected behavior

Import should fail with an error message or at least hang indefinitely instead of having a progressing status bar that looks like the import is working fine.
