Fix broken capabilities

It appears that several capabilities in this package are no longer working due to changes in the API and/or dependencies. See:

• "distributed.worker - WARNING - Compute Failed" on simple example #1
• Updated gssha_demo.ipynb #3

It would be great to get this working again.

@xaviernogueira have tried using this in a while?
